One for the money...

Cars from the post-war swing period right through to be-finned Goliaths from the Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll are taking pride of place at this year's Classic Motor Show.

From austerity period Ford Populars to jet-age influenced late-'50s American beauties, we fondly remembers the days when a cup of tea cost about a tanner and even Rank Studio starlets saw a Cadillac as their car of choice.

Starting Stateside, we've got a generous helping of American cars - with a show-winning 1959 Cadillac and a 1957 Lincoln Premiere convertible, returning to the age when cars took their design cues from jet aircraft. Harking back to a less dynamic age, a 1948 Pontiac shows just how rapidly US car design changed in a decade

Two for the show...

We're celebrating two wheels in our Classic Bike hall and there is still time to enter your motorcycle in the Pride of Ownership competition, supported by Meguiar's.

The Pride of Ownership celebrates the stunning motorcycles and their individual owners. There are a few spaces remaining for motorcycles representing the following categories:

  • Best Pre-1946
  • Best 1946 - 1959
  • Best 1960 - 1969
  • Best 1970 - on
  • Best British
  • Best European
  • Best Japanese

RealClassic magazine is supporting the competition, providing an experienced judging panel and a generous donation of the trophies and prizes will include Meguiar's product packs from their new bike specific range. The 'Best RealClassic' overall award will appear in a feature article in a future edition of RealClassic magazine and all prize winning bikes will appear on the RealClassic website. Each finalist will get two show passes per bike displayed as well as a parking pass. Get your entry in quick to snap up the final spaces. Send your bike and contact details to sandra.holloway@clarionevents.com with Pride of Ownership in the subject box.

Three to get ready...

It's not just American cars that are representing the Golden Age of Rock 'n' Roll - British cars are also out in force - ranging from Ford Zephyrs and Vauxhall Victors, with their design heavily influenced by their Stateside cousins, through to the Spartan era of Austin 10s and early Morris Minors.

And for a bit of ooh-la-la, check out the 1950s Simca Ariane for a touch of Gallic action, but if you want to go tiny, a gaggle of bubble cars will make even the most hardened enthusiast smile.

And away from standard cars, there is a selection of hot rods and custom cars too, harking back to when drag racing was on the open road and not at purpose-built strips. The true Rock 'N' Rollers should head to the Classic Bike hall where you'll find the Ace Cafe London and its Café Racer Concours, and a taste of Rockabilly with an American Airstream Caravan that doubles as a unique tattoo parlour and the Milkcow DJ playing classic hits from the 40s, 50s and 60s, you can learn how to jive and swing with the best of them!
